Privacy Policy

This page explains what personal information this website and my coaching collect, why, who else handles it, and what you can ask me to do with it. What I collect and why

Coaching enquiries. The form on the coaching page sends me your name, email, rating, where you are based and your message, so I can reply. The form is delivered by Formspree.
Email list. If you sign up for new posts, your email address is stored by Buttondown and used only to email you when a post is published. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Booking. When you book a session, Calendly receives your name, email and chosen time, and sends the Zoom link. Sessions take place on Zoom.
Payments. Payments go through Wise, UPI or bank transfer. I never see or store card details. I keep a record of each payment (name, amount, date) because tax law requires it.
Student accounts. Students get a login for the handbook. The account (email address and password) is managed by Netlify Identity; I never see your password.
Training log and exercises. What students enter in the training log, and which exercises they solve, is stored in a private Google Sheet that only I can open. I use it to plan our classes.
Site statistics. I use Google Analytics to see which pages are visited and which links are clicked: pages viewed, approximate location (country/city), device and browser, and how you arrived. It sets cookies. Visitors in Europe are asked first and nothing is set unless they accept. Advertising features are switched off.
Hosting. The site is hosted by Netlify, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser). Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts and the chess engine from jsDelivr, which also see your IP address when your browser requests those files.

What I don't do

I don't sell your information, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except the services listed above, which handle it on my behalf. Some of them are based outside India (mainly in the United States and the European Union), so your information may be processed there.

Students under 18

Many of my students are under 18. For them, coaching is arranged with a parent or guardian, who agrees to the student having an account and using the training log. A parent or guardian can ask me at any time to see, correct or delete their child's information.

How long I keep it

Enquiries: as long as we are in touch about coaching, and deleted on request.
Student accounts and training logs: for as long as you are my student. When coaching ends I deactivate the account, and I delete the log on request.
Payment records: for as long as Indian tax law requires.
Email list: until you unsubscribe.
Google Analytics data: 14 months.

Your choices and rights

You can ask me to show you the information I hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it, by emailing arjunkalyan555@gmail.com. I will reply within 30 days. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also have the rights given by the GDPR, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
